- Dedication of memorial bench in Honor of General James Longstreet, April 26, 1933. Photograph of dedication of memorial bench in honor of General James Longstreet, April 26, 1933. The ceremony for the unveiling of the memorial seat for General James Longstreet took place April 26, 1933 on the lawn of what is now the Civic Center. Dr. John Miller, a Brenau faculty member, was the principle speaker. Mrs. R. Lee Rogers, President of the local United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter, presided. Miss Doris Mealor, granddaughter of Mrs. W. G. Mealor, Chapter Treasurer, and Robert Lee Rogers, Jr., son of the Chapter President, unveiled the monument. Mrs. A. H. Swann was in charge of the memorial committee, and Henry H. Estes was the largest contributor to the memorial fund.
