- Gainesville Midland engine. Photograph taken of a Gainesville Midland locomotive. In 1904 the Gainesville, Jefferson and Southern Railroad became the Gainesville Midland. It began carrying passengers in 1906, and mail in 1907. In 1938, it was sold for $127,000 to Georgia Car and Locomotive Company. In 1959 it was sold to Seaboard Airline which merged with Atlantic Coast Line in 1963.
