- Oakwood High School, 1920s. The Oakwood High School and its students, from a photograph taken in the 1920s. The Oakwood High School building was completed in 1911. M.D. Collins became principal in 1912 and served for two years. Oakwood High School owned the first school bus in Georgia. The driver was Ernest H. Tanner, who worked from 1921 to 1922. His salary was $20.00 per month, and he drove an average of 44 miles per day.
