- Tornado of 1936 debris and wreckage. This photo, taken April 16, 1936, from the south side of the square shows masses of debris and wreckage in the center of Gainesville Square. The remains of the beautiful oak trees stand as bare and ravished spectres of what had been the beautiful circle in the center of Gainesville's Public Square.
