- Georgia delegation visits the White House, October 22, 1937. A delegation from Georgia visited the White House on October 22, 1937. The group invited President Roosevelt to visit Gainesville, Georgia so that he could inspect the reconstruction after the 1936 Tornado. The delegation took a drawing of the "Roosevelt Square" that would be dedicated during the President's visit. From left to right on the front row: Senator Richard B. Russell, Jr. ; Senator Walter F. George; Representative Frank Whelchel; Albert Hardy of Gainesville; and S. V. Sanford of the University of Georgia. Left to right on the back row: Colonel Sandy Beaver of Gainesville; C. Roberts, the former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury; Edgar Dunlap and Robert Johnson of Gainesville.
