- Description:
- Col. C. C. Sanders. Statue of Col. C. C. Sanders, a veteran of the Civil War and a prominent citizen of Gainesville. The statue was destroyed by the 1936 Tornado. Mrs. Helen Longstreet, Postmistress, was responsible for the only Confederate statue on Federal property in the United States. The statue was located on the corner of Green and Washington Streets, at the old Post Office Building.
