- Pearce Lake. Photograph of Pearce Lake, or Brenau Lake, which covered 38 acres. Dr. H. J. Pearce, president of Brenau, built the lake northeast of Gainesville between the Cleveland and Cornelia Highways. Dr. Pearce was an ardent fisherman, and the Haywood Pearce Fishing Club was named for him. A $5 permit allowed club members to catch fish from the lake.
