- Description:
- Old Piedmont Hotel. Photograph of the old Piedmont Hotel which was located on Main Street, two or three blocks from the Southern Depot. The hotel was owned by General James Longstreet. Often, some of his Civil War friends would stay at the hotel along with many summer visitors. It is said that one daughter of Woodrow Wilson was born in the Piedmont Hotel (arrow points from the room). Most of the hotel was later torn down and the lumber used to build houses in the vicinity. A small part of the hotel has been saved and is now being restored by the Longstreet Society.
