- Gainesville cotton mills. Photograph showing the Gainesville cotton mills that were established shortly after Pacolet Mill Number Four decided to locate in New Holland. Captain J. H. Montgomery, President of the Pacolet Mill Chain and Old Vesta Cotton Mill in Charleston, S.C., decided to move the mill to Gainesville. The mill was almost destroyed by the Tornado of 1903.
