- Description:
- Tornado relief workers gratefully receiving their "rations" from one of the emergency kitchens set up in downtown Gainesville, Georgia, shortly after the tornado of April 6, 1936. Efforts were massive: five CCC companies, 700 WPA workers, Legionnaires, policemen, firemen, officers and cadets from Riverside Military Academy, and other volunteers helped with the city's clean-up; doctors and nurses from Atlanta, Athens, Lawrenceville, and other nearby cities rushed to Gainesville to assist injured storm victims at impromptu medical facilities.
