- Description:
- Courthouse bell moved by 1936 tornado. The Gainesville City Hall bell, which was sounded as a fire alarm for Gainesville for over thirty years, was lifted into the air by the Tornado of April 6, 1936. The bell weighed over 600 pounds and was made of steel and bronze. It crashed through the roof of Birdsey Flour Mills on South Bradford Street. Miss Gladys Tanner is pictured with the bell.
