- Hundreds of homes destroyed, April 1936. Photograph taken after the April 6, 1936 tornado. Hundreds of homes were completely destroyed by the tornado that hit Gainesville. There were no streets, no electricity, no drinking water. There was chaos throughout the devasted areas.
