- Destruction of the Hall County Court House, April 1936 . Digitized reproduction of a photograph showing the destruction after the April 6, 1936 tornado. Five of Gainesville's six principal churches were destroyed or badly damaged by the tornado of April 6, 1936. The St. Paul Methodist Church was destroyed and Grace Episcopal Church was flattened to the ground. The First Baptist, First Methodist, and Catholic churches were damaged inside and outside the buildings. Notice the remains of the Hall County Courthouse in the upper left corner of this photograph.
