- Local and volunteer workers cleaning up streets on day of storm, April 6, 1936. Photograph showing a view of West Washington Street, off the Gainesville Public Square, after the tornado of April 6, 1936. Five CCC companies, 700 WPA workers, Legionnaires, policemen, and firemen from over the state, and officers and cadets from Riverside Military Academy, as well as numerous other volunteers, helped with the clean-up. The following buildings are visible in the photograph: George P. Estes, Darnell's, Roses 5, 10, 25 Cents Store, Millner's, and Rhodes-Wood Furniture.
