- Alta Vista Cemetery, 1953. Digitized reproduction of a photograph taken of the main entrance to Alta Vista, the city cemetery, 1953. Located on Jesse Jewell Parkway (previously West Broad Street, before street name was changed). The land was formerly owned by Ex-Governor Allen D. Candler, who reserved a lot for his family. Thomas Bennett, who died in 1872, was the first person to be buried in the cemetery. In the late 1960s there were over 7,000 graves in the cemetery. The name Alta Vista means "High View".
