- Gainesville City Hall, 1960s. Photograph of the Gainesville City Hall in the 1960s. This structure was built after the 1936 Tornado destroyed most of downtown Gainesville. Constructed of white Georgia marble. Mayor W.A. Palmour and Commissioners H.L. Gaines and A.W. Bell requested federal aid for the construction of the building.
