- Lt.-Gen. James Longstreet historical marker, 1954. Dedication of Lt.-Gen. James Longstreet's historical marker on the east lawn of the Hall County Courthouse on July 4, 1954. Longstreet lived in Gainesville from 1871 until his death in 1904. The General's widow, Mrs. Helen Dortch Longstreet (right) placed a wreath at the marker, and Miss Jamie Longstreet, granddaughter, unveiled the marker. General Longstreet was known as Lee's "War Horse."
