- Photograph of Roxy Theater. The Roxy Theater was located on Athens Street in Gainesville, Georgia. This theater for African-Americans opened on August 31, 1946. This picture was taken on stage at the Roxy's second anniversary celebration. Pictured here from left to right are Mr. D.S. Lowe, the theater manager; Dr. E. Butler; young George Hutchens; Mr. Charles Westbrooks; and George Oscar Hutchens, young George's father. Mr. Lowe is presenting a birthday cake to two year-old George who was born on the day of the opening of the Roxy Theater.
