Billy Lovett discusses Lovett family history, his early political life, and his work in the Public Service Commission. He recalls a situation where the emergency fund came into use. Lovett discusses coal and nuclear plants and Georgia's development of its energy resources. Lovett recalls his unsuccessful 1982 campaign for governor and his return to the Public Service Commission. He comments on his rocky relationship with Speaker Tom Murphy. Lovett discusses his decision to switch parties and President Reagan's influence on his decision. He reflects on the other party-switchers that were influential on the rise of the Republican Party, such as Newt Gingrich, Paul Coverdell, Johnny Isakson, and Mike Bowers. Lovett comments on the future of politics in Georgia. He discusses the role of the public service commission as a friend of the consumer versus a friend of industry. Lovett discusses the importance of transparency in governmental organizations. Lovett reflects on his life after politics. He discusses the amount of personal sacrifice a politician makes while running for and working in political office. Lovett comments on the 2002 Georgia gubernatorial race and discusses his involvement. He also discusses the Lovett Law and the Dublin Green Sox.
