The artless strain of our poetic muse,
And kindly Listen while the sequel tell
What dire fatality a Noble Land befell

Come saints behold what. god has done

The Lord hath raised great. washington
To Save our Bleeding Land
2
Cornwallis famd that. man of might.
appeared within our Land.
The Tories to him took their flight
and bowd at. his command
3
Georgia was easely subdewd
and Charlestown Could not. Stand
Lincoln the great. the just. the good
fell into Clintons hand

Cornwallis then marchd on with speed
O’er all the sylvan plain

All thunder struck the battle Lost,
Some run & some Ware Slain
Great. Gates escap’d upon his horse
Afraid to own his name

The Tories seciz’d their neighbours worth.

Our critic readers must. here excuse
The artless strain of our poetic muse,
And kindly Listen while the sequel tell
What dire fatality a Noble Land befell
1
Come saints behold what. god has done
and trust. his mighty hand
The Lord hath raised great. washington
To Save our Bleeding Land
2
Cornwallis famd that. man of might.
appeared within our Land.
The Tories to him took their flight
and bowd at. his command
3
Georgia was easely subdewd
and Charlestown Could not. Stand
Lincoln the great. the just. the good
fell into Clintons hand
4
Cornwallis then marchd on with speed
O’er all the sylvan plain

[next page]

The sons of Liberty did bleed
And all their hopes ware slain

5th
The friends of george no Longer hide
But. boldly strut. and swell.
The Rebells they with scorn deride
And wish them all in hell.
6th
at. Length great. General gates appeard.
exaulted high in fame
The British hero quckly heard.
and met. him on the plain
7
No Benington Success was their
nor Saratoga song
Cornwallis had ^ no Burgoyne fare
nor gates the Yankeys sons
8th
All thunder struck the battle Lost,
Some run & some Ware Slain
Great. Gates escap’d upon his horse
Afraid to own his name
9
Then Caroliner south & north.
ware filled with pain & woe
The Tories seciz’d their neighbours worth.
And Wigs away must go,

All our dependence was then in god,
He heard our pensive groan
Wee knew his hand & felt. his rod
And bowd before his throne
11th
The warlike green, Rhode Island’s son
commisioned from on high
In this distressing hour did come
And all our fears did fly
12th,
Morgan the waggoner boldly fought,
with Tarlton and his crew,
Morgan made Captive all his foot,
none but. his horse men flew.
13th
Green met. Cornwallis in the field
where blood the earth did stain
and Sampson Like he wold not. yield
but. Slew a thousand men
14th,
The smith blew up his fire so well
their Iron hard did melt,
Britons his anvil their did smell
and his hard hamer felt.

The British Lord then turned his course
and green pursewd as fast,
had food been plenty for his force
no doubt. he’d slain the Last
16
his Lordships rout. brought. him abought,
into Virginia Land
the sword & bayonet then ware found
in every buckskins hand
17
he marched along with raped speed
with Tarlton and his crew,
Our public stores could not. be freed
For shurly tarlton flew.
18
Fear not. said he I’le do no harm
but. Get. My horses feed
you need not. Shun the dread alarm
for I am brittons breed
19
Poor Tories how they’ve been deceived
They thought. the Earl ‘ad been honey
But. all whoever him believed
have Lost their Land & money

Burgoyne had Indians for his aid
and Lord Cornwallis slaves
These ware the Chiefest friends he made
and they soon Left. the knaves
21
The French boy with his yankey troops
And graney Wayne appeard
Cornwallis struck with pallid, Looks
down to his ships he steard
22
The gallic force forbid his flight.
And stopp’d his watery way
Their potent. fleet. appeard in sight,
And forc’d him their to stay
23d
Great. Washington that. man of skill
whom Europas states revere
his Lordships heart. With grief did fill
for he came marching near.
24
The troops together all combin’d
& Lay close seage to York
Without. The Loss of any time
They all engaged the work

Cannon Like claps of thunder roar
at. Washingtons Comand,
The Earth all staind with Crimson gore
And Brittons fanting stand
26
Cornwallis struck among the rest.
Retired into his Cave
But. balls still whistling round his nest
no peace he there could have
27
He who Rang’d the contry oer
was now confin’d in town
quivering he stood upon the shore
for want. of elbow room
28.
Ye Clouds of heaven distill no Rain
The Great Jehovah said.
While haughty brittons all are slain
or bow the Stubern head
29
Cornwallis Lookt. both night. & day

To drive the force of france away,
that. he might. then retreat.

But. no deliverance Could be found,
for god had fix’d his fate
That he should be a prisoner bound,

31
Where are my titles and my fame
The second burgoyne cryes
I either must. survive in shame
or fall a sacrifice

Must buckskins yankeys france and spain
All Join the Triumph sound,
Upon the yankey doodle strain
That I’m a prisoner bound,

Ware thunder struck with guilt.

For harmless blood theyd spilt

To drop their arms upon the field
and bow to washington
35
Is this the man that. man so great.
Who fill’d our Land with woe
who threatened vengeance to the states
is he become so Low.

36
Is Lord Cornwallis over come
Who made the earth to trimble
Like Lucifer he’s fallen down
And doth him much Resemble
37.
No more Let. Brittons proudly boast
of what. their arms can do
Burgoyne has Lost. his alban [British]host,
And Lord cornwallis too
38
No more shall france be stigmatiz’d
with coward rogue & knave
but. their good conduct. shall be priz’d
amongst. the hero’s brave
39
Arnold now trembles in despair
To hear of Brittains loss

[next page]

his heart. doth palpitate to hear
of guineas rope and cross

40
his wounded leg will ne’er forget.
but. if we catch the knave
we’ll bury that. amongst. the great.
The dogs the rest. may have
41
Sir Harry’s bulls no more shall roar
no more shall gold be given
now he may sail to brittains shore
And carry arnold with him
42.
The distant. nations shall Rejoice
To hear of Washington
And Join to sing with harts & Voice
The deeds of Eighty one [1781]
43
October being big with fates
Shall be Remberd well
twas then burgoyne resign’d to gates
& Lord Cornwallis fell

44
our Independence is our own
the Lord hath so decreed

[next page]

king george bids fair to loose his crown
and north as fair to bleed
45.
No more Let. Zion heartless grow
that. god rejects her prayer
for he hath sav’d our Land from woe
and fin’d his standerd there
46
Tho’. all the nations of the earth.
should with his Church Engage
and breath out. Slaughter war & death
he’d blast. Them in his rage
47.
Not. washington nor france nor spain
Shall have our sacred Lays
but. Christ. the lamb who once was slain
Shall have our sacred Praise

48
Glory to god who Reihns ^ above
and sends his goodness down
and turns about. his wheals of Love
To make his gospel known

Great. Mighty chief thy venerable name
Ever shall shine first. on the role of fame
of thee the ages yet. unborn shall sing
Resound thy praise while brittain mourns her king

Glory to thee great. Leader of the train
Engag’d the Cause of freadom to maintain

Whilst. with the blest. what. tyrants need we fear
And heaven in smiles bids the a helmn appear
Slavery herself with her Infernal train
hartless appears, shaking her galling chain
Immortal honours shall thy name secure
ne’er to fall While sun & moon endure
Great. Horses kings, to honor shall combine
the greatest. best. & worthiest. of man kind
old greece & Rome who mighty heroes Sang.
ne’er produst. so. great. so good a man

Their is one thing more attends this place
Which we do call an Evil
When we make Corn Wheat. & Rice
Its Eatin by the weavel

4
Not. only so we must. work hard
& Take great Care to make it.
To Let. us all with one accord
Conclude for to forsake it,
5
Altho this province is so bad
You may rais heaps of cattle
They’l rais them selves without Expence
and that. is half the battle

Here you may keep five hundred head
as Easy as keep Twenty
here you may soon fill up your dish
When. that. it. doth got. Empty

The flies in Sumer time they are so Bad
They all most. kill our Creatures
They dare not. go into the Swamps
for feat of the musqueaturs

8
They are best. of in winter time
They have no need of feeding
& I am Shure in sumer time
They have no need of bleeding
9
now to new Georgia I bid farewell
hoping times may alter
hoping all the worst. of Rogues
Soon may Get the halter
10
Could but the Indians be subdewd
& Rogues could have their portion
Their could not. be a better place
