- Description:
- Originally opened as the United Motor Services building by renowned Atlanta architect A. Ten Eyck Brown in 1921, it joined other automotive buildings along the stretch of Peachtree Street known as "Automobile Row". During World War II, the top floors of the building were used as financial offices for the War Department. In the 1950s, the building served as a Lane Drug store location, and later the Atlanta Ballet. Coca-Cola benefactors William and Ednabelle Wardlaw, who had purchased the automotive building, donated it for use as a homeless shelter from 1997-2017. After many years of legal battles over the site and its management, the facility was officially closed on August 28, 2017. In January 2019, the building was sold to Emory University; the building is across Peachtree Street from Emory's Midtown hospital. Variant names include: Peachtree-Pine Building, United Motors Services Building, Lane Drug, Atlanta Ballet.
