- Description:
- The 1929 Swan House is one of architect Philip Trammell Shutze's best-known works with the partnership Hentz, Adler and Shutze, and was built for Edward H. and Emily Inman. The house was built in the 1920s; the interior decor reflects the time period of the 1920s and 1930s, when the Edward H. Inman family resided in the home. Wood carving was primarily by H. J. (Herbert John) Millard. Emily Inman chose the swan motif from which the house gets its name. The house is located on the grounds of the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead; the building was purchased by the Atlanta Historical Society in 1966 and renovated during the 1990s. Spencer Tunnell was the landscape architect behind the restoration of a formal boxwood garden between 1996 and 1998. For more information see Linley, John.
