- Samuel A. Massell Jr. was born August 26, 1927. He is a businessman who served from 1970 to 1974 as the 53rd mayor of Atlanta, Georgia. He was the first Jewish mayor in the city's history, and the most recent white Mayor of Atlanta. His mayoral administration is credited with establishing the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), the Omni Coliseum (the first enclosed arena in Atlanta), and Woodruff Park.
In this interview, Sam Massell discusses his early political career in each of the offices he has held. He discusses race relations, the affirmative action program, and the construction of MARTA. He also discusses professional sports in Atlanta and the construction going on in the city. He gives advice to today's leaders and expresses hope for Atlanta's push for growth. - Metadata URL:
