- Description:
- Susie Corbett was born in Chicago, Ill. in 1956 to Japanese immigrant parents. She grew up in Doraville, Ga. Her family moved to Doraville in 1960; they were one of the first Asian families to live in the area. Corbett has lived in Doraville most of her life. She has a daughter and works as a realtor.
In this interview, Susie Corbett describes her experiences growing up as a member of one of the first Asian-American families in Doraville, Ga. She talks about racist treatment she received from her peers and members of her community, and describes the isolation and otherness she felt as a child and a teenager. Corbett describes her parents' experiences being placed into internment camps during World War II and of working hard to succeed after immigrating to the United States. She discusses the changes she has witnessed in the Buford Highway area over the course of her life. - Metadata URL:
