- Youtha Anthony Fowler II, also known as DJ Nabs is a DJ, musician, and former radio host from Durham, North Carolina. Fowler was born in 1969 and raised in Durham's Walltown community. After studying music for two years at North Carolina Central University, Fowler moved to Atlanta in 1988 where he continued studying music at Morris Brown College. During his time in Atlanta, Fowler's career as a DJ and influence in Atlanta's R&B and growing hip hop scene continued developing. Fowler worked with So So Def Records for over two decades, continued his thirty year on and off radio career, and released his album with Columbia Records. Since returning to Durham in 2019, Fowler has continued pursuing his career in music through involvement with Em City World.
In this interview, Fowler discusses growing up in Durham, North Carolina in the 1970s and eighties and his involvement with music from a young age. He describes his experience as a DJ from Durham to his time in Atlanta. Fowler also details his experience working on and off in radio for thirty years and witnessing the growth of hip hop in Atlanta. He reflects on some of the people who were influential to his career and working with companies such as So Def Records and the Mauldin Brand. Fowler also speaks on releasing his album, "In the Lab with DJ Nabs - The Live Album," with Columbia Records and collaborating with a range of musical artists. - External Identifiers:
