- This map identifies eight directional sectors radiating outward into the suburbs from the central area of Atlanta. The central area depicted on the map does not represent the Atlanta city limits. Known as the railroad cordon, it is an area within the City of Atlanta bounded completely by rail lines. The railroad cordon runs from the state capitol to Brookwood Station and includes both the downtown Atlanta and Midtown areas.
