- Jesse Etheridge is 68 years old and is a representative and member of Greater Bethany Baptist Church. He was born at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta in 1946. After high school he went to the air force. He was raised in Vine City and has ten siblings. He is married with two children (boy and girl), who are now adults. His highest level of education is a high school diploma. He currently lives in Decatur and worked as a customer service manager for Lucent Technologies for over 27 years.
Etheridge describes his upbringing in Vine City and explains that he worked at Paschal's and Chicken George in the 1960s. He left for the Air Force after high school, and upon returning, his family moved to Decatur; hence, he did not return to Vine City. His family moved from an apartment in Vine City to a house in Decatur simply for upward mobility. He mentions that African Americans businesses waned during the 1960s and many families moved away to enhance their lives. He currently participates once a month in a Neighborhood Planning Unit for Vine City where city officials meet to discuss current issues, such as crime rates and loitering. He still attends the Greater Bethany Baptist church in Vine City, despite living in Decatur for some time.
