- In this interview, Mrs. Gerard discusses her childhood relationship with Johnny Mercer, including some family stories about Mercer's childhood and some of her memories of Mercer visiting Savannah. She also recounts memories of visiting Johnny Mercer in New York as a young girl and spending a summer at the Mercers' home in Lido Isle, California. In the course of the conversation, she refers to younger members of the Mercer and Ciucevich families, including her own children, who exhibit musical talent. She talks about her adult memories of Johnny Mercer, including Mercer's generosity during her college years, his presence at her wedding in 1969, and her visits with him in New York. She especially mentions her last visits with Mercer in New York after The Good Companions.
Nancy Keith Gerard is the daughter of Juliana Mercer, Johnny Mercer's sister, and Henry Gilbert Keith. She is also the goddaughter of Johnny Mercer. Her husband, Steve Gerard, also contributes to this interview. - Local Identifier:
