- Description:
- Janie Brodhead was born in Portland, Or. in 1954. As the daughter of fundamentalist missionaries, Brodhead grew up in Oregon, Nigeria and eventually Georgia, where she settled and became a teacher. She currently runs a natural food store with her husband in Savannah, Ga. On January 21, 2017, millions of people worldwide took part in marches to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump as the President of the United States. The first protest, which took place in Washington, D.C., was known as the Women's March on Washington and was intended as a response to anti-woman rhetoric and beliefs that were espoused during Trump's campaign. While women's and reproductive rights were at the forefront of marchers' concerns, many also protested the racist, anti-immigrant, anti-science, and other controversial sentiments expressed by the incoming Trump administration.
In this interview, Janie Brodhead discusses her perspective on the election of Donald Trump and its influence on her decision to participate in the Women's March in Washington, D.C. She also describes her experience of the march and her specific motivations for attending. Finally, Brodhead offers advice to future marchers and explains her hopes for a more positive and united country. - Metadata URL:
