- Description:
- Christopher Broom was born in 1981 in Columbia, S.C. He currently lives in Atlanta, where he works as an interior designer. On January 21, 2017, millions of people worldwide took part in marches to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump as the President of the United States. The first protest, which took place in Washington, D.C., was known as the Women's March on Washington and was intended as a response to anti-woman rhetoric and beliefs that were espoused during Trump's campaign. While women's and reproductive rights were at the forefront of marchers' concerns, many also protested the racist, anti-immigrant, anti-science, and other controversial sentiments expressed by the incoming Trump administration.
In this interview, Christopher Broom discusses his experience at the Atlanta March for Social Justice and Women, which he attended with a group of friends. He talks about the congeniality of the crowd, signs and chants, and his feelings during the march. He compares the march with other marches he has attended in the past to support gay rights. Broom talks about his hopes and fears for the future under the Trump administration and the importance of staying politically involved. He urges people to participate in marches such as this one, describing it as an empowering way to connect with other like-minded people. - Metadata URL:
