- Description:
- Includes envelope, postmarked June 28, 1972. Addressed to Gough on Columbia Drive (Decatur, Georgia). Text reads "if all goes well up there / down here, I should be up in Atlanta next (this) weekend with Mr. Davies. / Your note, poetry vs. politics -- the poet is/was winning but now has little to sing. I feel paralyzed in a way -- I cannot move but a little and what little movement there is is all geared towards survival. Pain is at the bottom -- a hurt I do not understand and so have transformed into the mundane, the slightly noticeable. But it is there, unresolved, keeping me from reaching out, from speaking new words and singing fresh melodies. All so tight, transfixed, all but my eyes which still search and yearn quietly to break the darkness. Then when I am free from the shadows, I will make poetry and speak of where I have been through and what I have now come upon. / until -- (Mon., 7:15 pm)"
