- Description:
- Includes envelope, postmarked June(?), 21, 1972. Addressed to Gough on Columbia Drive (Decatur, Georgia). Text reads "twilight always leaves / lingers with a strange mystifying effect -- comminglings of rain and incense, soft fingering and black ink on this yellow page. At this time I am most unsure and yet most at ease. All old poetry seems ready in words and lines and phrases to reappear and challenge the still fading, unfolding day. There is a ringing and birdsong in rainfall and sweetness in slender lines of incense topped with a little fire. / What's going on is Aaron who can't read and wants to. And something Richey wrote & passed on through Hendricks now to me. I still weep at my loss, our loss, his suffering. And that's all right now. / Words are always a cruelty to me -- so much I cannot say. I'm sorry we did not spend time together (alone) this past weekend. I am a poor engineer. Take care and write. / Nothing else now -- Tues., 7 pm."
