- Newspaper caption: Young Jack Carver performs a back somersault for Cameraman Dan Lane at East Lake. Carver, who Coach Fred Lanoue says will try anything at least once off a springboard, has a big repertoire of dives and is one of the best among the young members of the club. The magic eye camera, an exclusive Sunday American feature, caught Carver whirling through the dive off the high tower. Notice the perfect takeoff. In the second shot, Carver has his knees bent, his arms are swinging to give him the necessary momentum up and back. As soon as he left the board his arms made a grab for his knees--the position he held until he straightened out to cut through the water.
