- Description:
- Series of photographs made by Dan Lane, commissioned by Coach Dwight Taylor Keith, for the Georgia Athletic Coaches Associations' 1951-All-Star Game at Georgia Tech. Dwight Taylor Keith (1900-1994) founded the Georgia Athletic Coaches Associations in 1938, and served as GACA executive secretary for 35 years. The Associations published the magazine Coach and Athlete, previously called Southern Coach and Athlete (1938-1952). Keith edited the magazine and commissioned many of the photographs used in the publication from the Lane Brothers. The magazine is sometimes called Georgia Coach and Athlete. Coach Keith began his post as varsity track and field coach at Georgia Tech in 1945. In the Lane Brothers' Assignment Book (1951, p. 295), the photo-shoot was listed as being for the Southern Coaches Athletic Association. The series of photographs cost $38.00 total. The negative envelope contains 27 images (including duplicates), all of which are digitized. In this photograph,21 members of the team are pictured in three rows, their helmets are removed, and they are arranged numerically according to the numbers on their jerseys. The jerseys have stars printed on the fabric above their shoulder-pads; helmets have stripes; otherwise, there are no distinctive identifying marks on the front of the uniforms. To the left of the back row of players is a young man, wearing long pants, glasses, and a T-shirt that reads "GACA 1951 All-Stars Football Manager." To the right of the back row of players stand two coaches, wearing long pants, one wearing a T-shirt (writing on shirt, if any, is not visible) and the other, an open-neck shirt. Coach on left may be Coach Keith.
