- Roger McDonald was born in Tuskegee, Ala. in 1924. McDonald was drafted into the military at age 18. He served during World War II in Europe and Asia. After his military service, McDonald worked as a postal service employee. He later became an air traffic controller. He also trained air traffic controllers for a short period of time towards the end of his career. McDonald fully retired in the 1990s.
In this interview, Roger McDonald discusses his childhood and his early love of airplanes. He spends a large portion of the interview discussing his time in the military during World War II. He discusses much of his traveling and his cohort during his military service. McDonald discusses many of his years in the air traffic control system including his jobs and issues he had with his employers.
