- Description:
- Recording of a Mississippi AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education (COPE) meeting prior to the convention. In this recording, Claude Ramsay explains his experience meeting with Rubel Phillips about endorsing his gubernatorial campaign against John Bell Williams. Ramsay meets with the COPE committee regarding Phillips’ candidacy, the results of the recent fifteen cent minimum wage increase in Mississippi, and COPE committee members vote on changes to the language in the committee bylaws regarding meeting requirements. Ramsay then explains his grievances with a labor-affiliated candidate by the name of McKinley who sought the AFL-CIO’s endorsement. The recording appears to be taped over a recording of the convention of the Mississippi State AFL-CIO which can be heard at the beginning and end of the tape.
