- Description:
- Susan Thrasher is an activist, former archivist, community organizer and adult educator. She worked at the Highlander Folk School, now known as the Highlander Research and Education Center in Tennessee during the Civil Rights Movement. There, she trained as a volunteer for Mississippi Freedom Summer, a movement to register Black voters for the 1964 election.
During this interview, Thrasher discusses her time at Highlander, the structure of workshops there, and the legacy of staff members. She describes international exchange trips, places the Civil Rights Movement in a global as well as a local context, and analyzes the success of Highlander's community outreach and organization efforts. - Metadata URL:
