- Colonel Frank Borman was Eastern Air Lines' Chairman and CEO by 1975. Prior appointments within the airline began in 1969 as a special advisor, upgrade to senior vice president in 1970, executive vice president of operations and a member of the Board of Directors by 1974 and in 1975 he became COO, President, Chairman of the Board and CEO. His prior careers in the Air Force, commander of space flight missions, a NASA field director and professor at West Point aided his knowledge of the industry. Helping his administrative role at Eastern, Borman earned his Masters degree in aeronautical engineering from CalTech as well as a degree in business administration and management from Harvard.
