- Mary Kathleen (Kay) Duncan was born in 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia. She briefly attended Georgia State College from 1933-1934. In 1941 she married Lieutenant Robert Crouch, a civil engineer and career Army officer, and in 1945, had a daughter, Moira Kathleen. From 1949, Crouch accompanied her husband in his various Army postings throughout the world,spending time in the Pacific Northwest, Japan, and France. When her husband was transferred back to Atlanta, Crouch enrolled at Georgia State College and in 1957 graduated with a B.B.A. in Marketing. In 1958, when her husband was posted to Washington D.C. Crouch attended Washington University, where she earned an M.B.A. in Counseling Psychology (1959). After her husband's retirement from the U.S. Army, Crouch enrolled at the University of Georgia, and in 1967 attained a School Specialists Degree in Counseling. In 1970, she was awarded a Doctor of Education in Educational Psychology by the University of Georgia. From 1959 to 1967, Crouch worked in the Atlanta Public School System. In 1969 she was hired by Georgia State University as a Counselor/Assistant Professor and by 1971, she was promoted to Counselor/Associate Professor. Dr. Crouch became Vice President of University Operations in 1973, Assistant Vice President for Student Services in 1977, and Vice president for Academic Services in 1978. During her tenure at Georgia State University, Crouch taught grooming, etiquette, and assertiveness training, in addition to study skills for incoming freshmen. Crouch was an advocate for increased sexual harassment education and was also a compliance officer for Title IX (passed in 1976, requiring that educational institutions receiving federal funding could no longer discriminate on the basis of sex). Crouch was a member of the Georgia Association of School Counselors, Georgia Personnel and Guidance Association, and the American Personnel and Guidance Association. Crouch retired from Georgia State University in 1985, and during her retirement continued her lifelong passion for traveling, in particular, taking trips to Scotland, as well as supporting Scottish tourism and industry. Crouch served as a pastoral and lay counselor at Bayfront Medical Center, and, an avid gardener, she was a member of the Rhododendron Society of America. In 1993, Crouch suffered a stroke. She died in Atlanta, GA in 1998.
