- Caption: "Tragedy marker comes down- Workmen Thursday removed the huge sign from the front of the Winecoff Hotel building, where 119 persons perished by fire last Dec. 7. Removal of the sign followed a court order. The receiver for the hotel filed a petition in court asking that the sign be dismantled. He contended it served no purpose other than to act as a reminder of the tragedy. Journal Photo"
