- Description:
- Newspaper caption attached to print verso: "Stone Mountain, Ga: Wood-burning steam locomotive, General 2, makes scheduled five- mile runs around the base of Stone Mountain. Engine is exact replica of one used in the 'Great Locomotive Chase' of General Sherman's campaign." Stone Mountain Scenic Railway has three steam-locomotives ("General II," "Texas II," and "Yonah II"). They were named after the famous engines of The Great Locomotive Chase, and were given 19th-century style smokestacks and headlights. However, the engines were actually built between 1919 and 1927. The scenic railway opened in 1962.
