- Description:
- Printed on negative envelope: "Nour, Elias D., (He's saved 34 from death on Stone Mountain) cover, August 3, 1958... Photo by Kenneth Rogers. Used 9-7-58 for Shop Talk." Caption: "The Cover: The man on our cover today, shown climbing up the north side of Stone Mountain above the Confederate memorial, is Elias Nour who for 30 years has been a one-man rescue service at the mountain. He made his first rescue as a boy of 13 and in all has saved the lives of 34 persons, mostly intrepid sight-seers who went too far down the slick side of the mountain and then couldn't get back. With sure feet, strong ropes and great skill, Nour still brings them back alive. He had to rescue our photographer, in fact, after he climbed down the mountainside to make this picture. Story and other photographs are on Page 8 and 9. -Photo by Kenneth Rogers."
