- Description:
- Printed on negative envelope: "Mary Costa, using April 8, 1962; 3-15-62 Jillson" Caption: "Mary Costa (using 4/8/62): The Cover: Beauteous young soprano Mary Costa, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, gave up a career in television - delivering commercials - to star in operas, concerts, and musicals. Her unorthodox operatic debut was on a Jack Benny television show. Since 1959 she has been a prima donna with the San Francisco Opera Company. She will make her debut at London's Covent Garden opera house in June. This spring, on a concert tour of 36 cities, including Atlanta, she traveled with a wardrobe of a dozen beautiful gowns, which cost from $1,500 to $2,500 and were designed by Hollywood's famed Edith Head. Miss Costa was photographed in one of them at her Atlanta hotel. She recalled that her first trip here was 22 years ago, when she came with her mother to the premiere of 'Gone With the Wind' and 'slept through most of it.' Some day she hopes to come back as a singer with the Met. Story on Page 12. - Photo by Floyd Jillson"
