- Description:
- Printed on assignment sheet: "Caption for man in front of train: Howard Higgins, 66, poses for pictures for friends in front of Frisco 1522 steam engine at Brookwood Station after arriving from Birmingham along with about 200 other railroad enthusiasts who are here for the National Railway Historical Society's convention which starts Wednesday. The 50-year old engine left from St. Louis on June 18. The train was the Peach Blossom Special. As the train passed through Douglasville and Austell, it caused traffic jams as people stopped to look, take pictures, or drive slowly next to the train. Higgins who worked for 42 years with Southern Railroad, was a car host on the train. His job? 'To see that people are happy, while riding the train,' he said. As for his fascination with trains, he said, 'It's in my blood. It's part of my life.' The NRHS is a national organization dedicated to promoting railway travel, education, and preservation. See attached for more info. Caption for train alone: The Peach Blossom Special, pulled by Frisco 1522 steam engine, outside of Austell. Caption for people waving: Passengers on the Peach Blossom Special wave to the crowds that stopped to watch the steam powered train pass through Austell."
