- Description:
- Photographic print; Atlanta Journal photograph of the controversial "pick," a metal leg cage used to restrain the movement of prisoners on road crews. Newspaper caption attached to verso of print: "Here's A Prison 'Pick.' This unusual device is known as a 'pick' to prisoners at the Dallas, Ga., prison camp. It prevents a man from running away -- and is attached to his leg -- or legs -- as a means of punishment. Warden Q.E. Worthington ordered all 'picks' removed when he took charge of the camp in February, the convicts say, but has had to replace them on several malcontents -- Journal Photo by Guy Hayes."
