- Description:
- Newspaper caption attached to print verso: "Students at Teasley School in Smyrna Give a Pull, Start Running and Presto: Kites Are Airborne." Second newspaper caption attached to print verso:"Glue, Paper and String--- Suddenly Japan's Near: It's certain that spring is near when a young man's fancy turns to love. And just as certain when a younger man's (and girl's) fancy turns to kites. The fourth-grade class of Mrs. W.O. Morris at Teasley School in Smyrna got a jump on the calender recently when they decided to build and fly their own version of the paper-and-string flying contraptions. Since the class was studying Japan in world geography, the teacher decided Japanese kites would provide added interest. So they gathered silk, plastic and thin brown paper to complete the project. In a few days, the results were in the air." Photographer: Marion Crowe. Photo stamped on verso: March 14 1969.
