- Description:
- Negative envelope: "Art. Sculptor Steffen Thomas of Stone Mountain (K. Rogers). Used cover & inside March 4, 1962." Newspaper clipping attached to negative envelope: "Sculptor Steffen Thomas of Stone Mountain, Ga., displays one of his most recent works—a statue in free Bronze of Don Quixote and his horse. Mr. Thomas says the statue might also be called 'Pathos.' The artist, born in Germany 55 years ago, has lived and worked in Georgia for more than 30 years, and has done sculptures of such notables as Eugene Talmadge, Walter George and Martha Berry. 'The sculptor is the workingman among artists,' says Mr. Thomas. 'More than any other artist, he has need of a generous gift of physical strength—strength of back, arms, hands and legs. No sit-down job is his. He must watch his work from every angle, not only from every side but also from above and below.' For more of his ideas and more color pictures of his art, see Pages 8 and 9.—Photo by Kenneth Rogers."
