- These are scenes from an fatal explosion that occurred in Trenton, Georgia, Chattanooga County [i.e. Dade County]. The type of gas that ignited the flames was never discovered, but the source of the 10-hour ordeal was a 16-year-old boy scout's carbide lamp. Two rescuers, Rusty Mills, age 18, and Bernie Gilley, age 19, died in an attempt to rescue the boy scouts. The scouts' guide, Phill Howell, age 27, also was killed by the noxious fumes. Negative envelope: "Cave Explosion in Trenton, Georgia (Chattanooga County). April 16, 1966. Bill Wilson." AJC Memorandum: "Turn in to me before February 1, 1977, 1 8x10 print with ID and the negative of the five best photographs you have produced since 12/10/45. Color submitted in addition to above."
