- Newspaper assignment sheet attached to print verso identifies photographer Frank Niemeir: "Coup Clucks, a comedy taking poke at the Ku Klux Klan, is playing at local theatre here & stirring controversy as the Klan hates the play as well as some black leaders in Gainesville because of slurs in it. [...] Caption: Dr. Kennedy (played by Gordon Danniels (cq)) (from left) the town's dentist who gets to dress up as Rhett Butler, Essie (played by Amy Ray) and Beulah (played by Mary Powell) who dresses as Scarlett O'Hara get ready for the Tara Parade and Ball during the play 'Coup/Clucks' at the Georgia Mountains Center Theatre on the square in Gainesville Wednesday night. The play has raised the ire of the Ku Klux Klan. The play runs through May 4."
