- Description:
- Newspaper caption attached to print verso: "End of the line. This 66-year-old gargoyle seems a bit broken up over demolition of Terminal Station, praised as a 'magnificent structure' upon its opening in 1905 and now crumbling under the onslaught of progress. The station is owned by the Southern Railway System. A spokesman for Southern in Washington said Tuesday the building is coming down 'because it's no longer used.' The Atlanta chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society Inc. retrieved numerous items of historical interest from the building after it was shut down in 1970, and now the demolition is entering its terminal stages. There are no immediate plans for use of the property, the Southern spokesman said. (Staff photo -- Guy Hayes)." Caption date-stamped: Jan 26 1972 Constitution.
